The Europeans that survived didn’t want to make the hand work, because the salary wasn’t good. So, they found the answer to this problem: immigrants. They came from everywhere, India, South America, Africa… And they revived the oldest country in the world. But, in the decade of 1960, Europe was strong again, so the hands of the immigrants were not necessary anymore. So, the European governments tried to stop the immigration.
But many unqualified and qualified workers started to “escape” from their nations to find a good job in Europe. Many engineers and scientists fled from their countries to live better. It was the beginning of the “Brain Drain”.
The human capital flight was common, until the 2008-2009 Crisis knocked on the developed nation’s door. The governments started to take steps to cut spending. Not only the immigrants, but the Europeans didn’t like it. Then, the immigrants started to come back home.
To the Europeans, the situation only got worse, because any country couldn’t get out of crisis and the government steps were bothering the citizens of the Euro Zone. However, in the developing countries, the effects of the crisis were not that bad. So, many Portuguese, Spanish, Italians started to go to these developing nations, like Brazil, India, China, Russia and South Africa. Now, these new immigrants can find a job easily.
According to the magazine “The Scientist”, the European brain drain bothers the EuroScience, organization founded in 1997 for the support and promotion of science and technology in Europe, and the European Union.
The Brazilian journal, “A Folha”, interviewed the English Karl Gensgerb. He said that used to work with Molecular Biology, in the Birmingham University, in England. But he gave up on that to become a plumber. The reason, receive almost the double of his former salary. Many cases like this are happening around the continent, since the beginning of the XXI century and the situation became worse with the economic crisis.
Therefore, it is better to think deep before going to Europe looking for a job, because if the Europeans can’t find it there, it’s hard to think that a Latin or an Indian will do it.
